Christmas Eve PJ Tradition

For many years (not sure how long?), I have bought new pjs for the kids to open on Christmas Eve.  Not Christmas PJs, just new.  This started as a selfish tradition because I wanted the kids to look cute on Christmas morning for all our pictures.  No ripped knees.  No bare chests.  No....only boxer.

For the sake of money this year, I almost didn't buy any.  I heard the kids talk about it a week before Christmas, so I headed out to buy some new PJs.  Thankfully, I found them on clearance at $3.50 a set - Awesome!!

Daddy got a new t-shirt to go with this "fat pants" and Mac also got a new robe - last year he didn't get one and it was tragic.
The crew!  Heading to bed and waiting for Christmas!
Apparently, I had poor judgement on the size for Tavis. When he put his on, I was laughing so hard I thought I was going to wet my pants.
So, I did a little sewing tonight to make everything good for Christmas morning.

My version of 'Twas a Night Before Christmas' - 2013

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Not a kid was stirring, not even a mouse (well, maybe a mouse)
Snowflakes were hung around the house with care
In hopes that Christmas morn would soon be there.
The children were sleeping all alone in their beds,
While visions of BB guns danced in their heads.
With hubby at the Xbox and me in my PJs,
I finally sat down with the iPad to play.
When somewhere in a distance there arouse such a clatter
I sprang from my seat saying, "Now what's the matter?"
All I wanted was a little time all by myself
Then I saw something moving, maybe an elf?
I don't believe in Santa, this can't be real
I've done all my shopping and I got a great deal.
Then I was given a gift I cannot express
I was shown my life without a child's mess.

It turns out I don't mind the job I've been given.
The never ending laundry and shoes always hidden.
The dirty floors and bad dreams in the middle of the night
The bullies, the homework and the best friend fight.
The cooking of dinner that no one will eat
The snotty noses and coughs and the fever heat.
The endless dusting and scrubbing of the commode
All a very small price for this awesome abode.

When my five-year old showed up just for a hug,
I recognized my treasures, giving my heart a tug.
I'm constantly wishing my children's childhood away
When I should be enjoying them since they aren't gonna stay.
I kissed my little boy and tucked him back into bed
"Thank you, little man, for clearing my head."

I sometimes forget, they grow up too fast
And I need to make good memories that will forever last.
For now, I promise to enjoy them instead
Of waiting for the day they don't get out of bed.

Suddenly, through the blinds the sun began to shine
And I realized I'd fallen asleep and now it was time.
The kids were now waking and ready to begin
To celebrate the birth of our Lord and King!

Brown Christmas

I know in my last post I stated the stress of a Christmas with so many little kids.  The Brown Christmas is the complete opposite and it was nice to have a little one in the mix this year.  I just love this picture of the Brown cousins!
After Libby woke from her nap, we ate a yummy dinner and then headed over to the tree.

Caines Christmas Chaos 2013

Sometimes, Christmas with 23 little kids running around that are high on sugar can be a little less than enjoyable.  Plus, trying to get a meal together (we have gone back and forth between a full meal, just soups and once just sandwiches).  The parents seem to go into survival mode and endure the choas, but this year was great!  The kids are older. And the schedule worked better this year.  We did gifts first, ate our meal and then everyone played.  There were many different activities and games going on throughout the afternoon.

I hate to sound so negative about Christmas, but we were bracing for a long day, and it was, but it was also a fun, fun day!!

Here are some highlights:

Papa reading the Christmas Story
Gift Chaos - all the cousins just draw one name to give a gift to.  Papa and Grandma give a gift to everyone!

 Beautiful Girl Cousins
 The three generations of JR
 The after-gift-games
 The kids table
Uncle David impressing the kids with his potato gun
And a serious game of Spoons
We missed the Harris' but we had a wonderful Christmas Eve morning.

Now onto the Browns Christmas....
