Parent/Teacher Conference

Today the kids didn't have school, but we had to go anyway because we had Parent/Teacher conferences. They got to play on the playground while I went around to my meetings. Tomorrow Fall Break will start and continue through Monday and Tuesday next week. Unfortunately, for the kids, we had to be at school at 9:10 so there wasn't a lot of "sleeping in" time.

All reports were fairly good.

Capps is doing great. All my worries about him and his 'quirks' baffle the teacher because she said he is doing so well - socially (the big concern) and academically. He still is struggling on how to handle stressful situations, but we are working on that.

Daegan was described as a "well-rounded kid". I never put that label on him, but it totally makes sense. His teacher said he is enthusiastic about learning, but doesn't interrupt in class. He is a friend to everyone and if someone doesn't want to play what he wants to play, he moves on. He is smart, but not conceited. When he doesn't know something he isn't embarrassed, he just wants to know the facts so he can remember next time. That makes a Momma proud!!

Tavis is a talker, which is probably how I remember all his P/T conferences to start. Thankfully, they say he responds to a stern voice, but just needs to learn some self control. hmpf He is doing great in his studies. He loves to read, is doing great at spelling, bible and language arts. He (maybe this is going to be a 3rd grade tradition) is still struggling with math facts, but as we study them at home I am convinced that it is the "timed test" that freaks him out.

Mollee, apparently, is a talker too. No teacher has ever said this about her, but they probably have just been blinded by her sweetness. She oozes kindness, but apparently enjoys the social life of school a lot! Now that sounds like her. Fourth grade has really kicked her butt, but as the 2nd quarter starts I can only pray she will do better. Her grades are fine, we are just trying to get used to homework, homework and more homework. She is responsible to keep a calendar of assignments and the teacher expects them to remember what they need for those assignments rather than reminding them of the details (eg. "Don't forget your Atlas book tonight" is not what she is going to hear). She has been bumped up to the next level of reading which is very exciting and I'm eager to see how she does with it (it is a fairly large jump).

We thank God as a family all the time for the chance to attend a Christian school. One teacher made the comment that she loved teaching at this school so much more than the public school because the parents are actually involved. Glad to know I can't be too involved!
